"we're half-awake..."

My final project from last term, Gary Meyer's acrylic composition & painting class. The assignment was to do anything, so long as we included three figures with a background.

The idea for this was based off of the song "Fake Empires" by the National. I was listening to their latest album, Boxer, pretty consistently through the term, and the opening song in particular struck me for its vivid imagery. The images in the painting can be interpreted broadly, but the basic narrative is about disillusionment. The medium is acrylic, and I worked pretty large for this one - the final image size was probably around 12"x24".
